Proximity Sensor - Carlo Gavazzi, Fotek

Proximity sensors are used to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact. It emits an electromagnetic or electrostatic field, or a beam of electromagnetic radiation (infrared, for instance) and looks for changes in the field or return signal. Target is the term used to define the object being sensed by the sensors. Different targets demand different sensors so a inductive proximity sensors, capacitive proximity sensor and photoelectric sensor is suitable for sensing a plastic target and an inductive proximity sensor senses metal targets.
